Tesla Model 3 Performance: its value is collapsing very quickly

Tesla already offers very low-mileage Model 3 Performance at striking prices of over 8,000 euros off.

Do we buy a Tesla for a rational act aiming at fuel savings, or for passion? The answer largely depends on the model chosen, of course, but the gap is not simple. Prestige brands that once boasted about their thermal vehicles (often German) are struggles today to maintain that “little extra something” that justified very high prices. With electric vehicles, everything is reset: loss of passion and increased competition.

But the problem is the same with Tesla where indeed electric vehicles ensure excellent performance for “not very expensive,” but the emotion is missing. And the idea of keeping your car for 10 years or more, sometimes hoping for a little added value like with Porsche, has never existed. Similarly, a BMW M3 thermal has never been revolutionized from one generation to the next, so older models retained their attractiveness in the second-hand market.

With electric vehicles, technological obsolescence is constant as evolution is ongoing. As soon as a car is presented, it is already outdated, and the arrival of lighter solid-state batteries with ultra-fast charging will add another layer.

So much so that a sentiment develops: buy then resell very quickly to “get rid” of the problem before it becomes impossible to manage. We see this with the Tesla Model 3 Performance: after the headlines in the press and the buzz effect, what is the depth of the market for such a vehicle at over 55,000 euros? Very weak.

In the catalog of available vehicles at Tesla, there is a superb Model 3 Performance in black whose new configuration cost 66,290 euros. After only 4,200 kilometers, its value has already dropped to 57,990 euros, representing a decrease of 8,300 euros (-14%). With a bit of negotiation, it is even very likely that Tesla will let this unit go for even less.
