For its 75th anniversary, Porsche unveiled an electric concept previewing the style and performance of its next hypercar.

On June 8, 1948, the Porsche 356 Roadster No. 1 was born in the workshops of Gmünd, Austria. A new sports car brand emerged, with all the uncertainties of the time, coming out of the war, about its ability to survive. Today, it is one of the most prestigious manufacturers on the planet along with Ferrari. But rather than looking in the rearview mirror, Porsche continues to move forward to always be part of the present and future. Hence this strong appetite for electricity, along with the new universe of possibilities it brings.

“The Porsche Mission X is a technological preview for the sports cars of the future. It carries on the legacy of iconic sports cars from previous decades like the 959, Carrera GT, and the 918 Spyder before it. Mission X provides a crucial momentum for the evolving development of future vehicle concepts,” declares Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG. “Inspiring dreams and dreaming of cars are two sides of the same coin for us: Porsche has remained Porsche only by constantly changing.”

Measuring 4.5 meters long and 2 meters wide, Mission X offers perfect dimensions. The entire vehicle features separate pneumatic mounts at the front and rear with 20 and 21-inch diameters. Upon observation, one can already appreciate a certain return to classicism after concepts with very (too?) modern looks and no historical links to the DNA of the German brand. For example, the vertical headlights are a nod to the Porsche 906 and 908, which revolutionized the world of endurance racing in the mid-1960s with their mid-mounted engine. The muscular lines, the fully glazed cockpit bubble, and the butterfly doors clearly recall Le Mans.

Porsche makes no secret of it and states that this Mission X could have a commercial version as soon as it meets these criteria:

– Be the fastest electric car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife

– Achieve a power-to-weight ratio of 1

– Have aerodynamic downforce greater than that of the current 911 GT3 RS

– AND HAVE A RECHARGING CAPACITY IN A 900-VOLT ARCHITECTURE THAT WOULD ALLOW A CHARGING SPEED TWICE AS FAST AS THE CURRENT REFERENCE, THE PORSCHE TAYCAN TURBO S.

No other technical details have leaked, as Mission X remains primarily a styling exercise that prepares the ground and mentalities for a new paradigm shift: Porsche’s first 100% electric hypercar. A moment to remember in a historic way.
