On Board the XPENG G6, the Tesla Model Y Killer

With the G6, XPENG enters the French market by directly targeting the segment benchmark, the new Tesla Model Y.

The Chinese manufacturer does not hide its ambitions: to offer a well-designed electric SUV, with advanced technology and a premium positioning, without ostentation. Success? Based on this first impression, the answer clearly leans towards yes.

The G6 stands out with a sleek and elegant silhouette. Its sloping roofline ends with a retractable spoiler, adding a dynamic touch to a body with subtle curves. Flush door handles, two-tone wheel arches, and frameless windows enhance the premium look, while the light strips at the front and rear ensure a modern and distinctive visual signature.

The interior surprises with its level of finish. Ubiquitous leather, neat assemblies, a symmetrical dashboard reminiscent of vintage American cars but modernized, everything is designed to appeal. The driving position features a well-integrated central screen, supplemented by a small driver display behind a two-spoke steering wheel. Touch controls replace door handles, and the perceived quality is impressive – even on a prototype already well used.

XPENG follows in Tesla’s footsteps

The rear comfort is not forgotten: generous legroom, flat floor, and large panoramic roof contribute to the comfort. Only downside: the absence of a sunshade, which could be problematic in the summer despite advanced filtering treatment.

On the technical side, three versions are available: Standard Propulsion (265 hp, 66 kWh, 435 km range), Long Range (280 hp, 87.5 kWh, 570 km), and Performance (480 hp, 87.5 kWh, 550 km). Fast charging at 800V allows going from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes, a significant advantage over competitors.

Priced from €42,990 in the Standard Range Propulsion version, the G6 is slightly above a Model Y but compensates with rich equipment, refined finish, and a real exclusivity on our roads.

XPENG aims for controlled growth with 35 dealerships in France by the end of 2025. The G6 does not shout but persuades. And that is its true strength. If you pass through the big track at Le Mans next June for the 24 Hours, you’ll have the opportunity to discover this range of vehicles in the village that is likely to make some noise.
