No small Tesla for 20,000 euros before 2025

Such a long wait that has been ongoing since Tesla’s first announcements in 2020. But the Redwood project is finally coming to an end!

This small Tesla was originally supposed to be produced in Texas, but the latest announcements from the manufacturer indicate that the first units could be built at its European Gigafactory in Berlin. The unveiling is still expected to take place this year, as the company’s suppliers are already prepared. Tesla sent “request for quotations” or calls for tenders for the model with the code name “Redwood” to suppliers last year, and plans a weekly production volume of 10,000 vehicles, according to two sources.

With the “finally” launched Cybertruck, Elon Musk has now shifted his company’s focus to this affordable electric vehicle and the autonomous robotaxis expected to be built on the same platform. This futuristic-looking autonomous taxi has already been delayed several times after the manufacturer failed repeatedly to obtain full autonomous driving permissions. This new-generation Tesla architecture, internally called “NV9X,” is expected to use a unique stamping manufacturing technique for the first time. To simplify, a large piece of metal goes into a hydraulic press and comes out as a complete chassis. This process could lead to enormous manufacturing cost savings.

These new models could allow Tesla to compete with cheaper gasoline cars and, more importantly, an increasing number of affordable electric vehicles, such as those made by Chinese company BYD, which surpassed Tesla as the world’s leading EV manufacturer in the last quarter of 2023.
