A new chapter in the history of the Sino-British automaker with the unveiling of a very large electric sedan, the Lotus Emeya.

From an obsolete status, Lotus has leaped into the future within a year by developing two electric cars: the large SUV, the Eletre, and today a flagship sedan, the Emeya.

We will stop crying sacrilege; Lotus founder Colin Chapman, who died in December 1982, nearly 41 years ago, is long gone. The car company he created survives him and must evolve if it wants to endure. In fact, its commercial performance has been unprecedented.

This Lotus Emeya’s front target is the Porsche Taycan, and its technical specifications are top-notch. A quick summary would be to say that the Emeya is the “street-racing” version of the Eletre. Its dimensions and technical sheet are surprisingly similar.

Lotus aims here to set new standards, both dynamically and in comfort, with a pneumatic suspension known for being heavy and energy-consuming. Nonetheless, power and torque reach up to 905 horsepower (675 kW) and 985 Nm with incredible performance: 0 to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds and a top speed of 256 km/h.

The charging speed of the 102 kWh battery is also a notable achievement, with accepted rates up to 350 kW… provided you find an equally efficient charging station. This means a 150 km range recovery in 5 minutes, and an 80% charge in 18 minutes.

Range, precisely, is not disclosed, but based on the Eletre’s specifications, enhanced with active aerodynamics (front grille, spoiler, diffuser with retractable fins…) and probably a lighter weight, the 490 km range of the “905 hp” Eletre should be significantly exceeded.

In its most modest version, with about 600 horsepower, the goal is to reach a range of 600 km.

This Lotus Emeya will introduce a novelty inspired by noise-canceling headphones: the interior will feature sensors that, thanks to algorithms, will counter road and air noise to offer an unprecedented silence during driving.

As for the rest, Lotus remains very vague, indicating that prices and technical details will be revealed later in the fourth quarter. Production is scheduled to begin in 2024.
