Leapmotor B03: the new electric rival of the Renault 5 arrives in France

Called A05 in China but sold under the name Leapmotor B03 in France, this new electric compact does not hide its ambitions.

Leapmotor is ramping up its offensive in the European market. After the T03, C10, and B10, the Chinese manufacturer, supported by Stellantis, is preparing a new electric compact aimed at challenging the references of the segment. Named A05 in China, it will be marketed as the Leapmotor B03 in France and Europe, to standardize the manufacturer’s lineup on the Old Continent.

With its length of 4.20 meters, the Leapmotor B03 competes with the Renault 5 E-Tech, Peugeot e-208, Volkswagen ID.2, Cupra Raval, and MG GO!. Its wheelbase of 2.61 meters promises generous interior space, while its modern design incorporates the stylistic codes of the brand’s latest models, featuring a clean front end, LED lighting signature, and a refined profile to enhance aerodynamic efficiency.

Designed for urban use

Under the hood, the electric compact will be offered in China with two powertrains of 95 or 122 hp, powered by LFP batteries of 39.8 or 53 kWh. Leapmotor announces up to 505 km of range according to the CLTC cycle, which should correspond to about 350 to 420 km in WLTP cycle. This should meet the expectations of European drivers looking for a versatile electric car for both daily use and long journeys.

The interior focuses on a technological presentation with a digital dashboard of 8.88 inches, a central touchscreen of 14.6 inches, over-the-air updates (OTA), and numerous driving aids.

But it is primarily its pricing strategy that could make the difference. Leapmotor aims for a price below €20,000, a strategy made possible by the industrial partnership with Stellantis and anticipated European production in Spain. If this promise is kept, the Leapmotor B03 could become one of the most competitive electric cars on the French market, offering a particularly attractive price/performance ratio.
