Audi Q4 e-tron

The magic of the electric car can continue to be improved. This is the case with the Audi Q4 e-tron, which benefits from an update.

Relatively anonymous in the premium electric SUV market compared to the Tesla Model Y and Mercedes EQA and EQB, which are all three accessible under the 47,000 euro mark qualifying for the 5,000 euro eco-bonus, the Audi Q4 e-tron and its four-door coupe Sportback variant nevertheless hold their own.

But rather than engaging in a price war by cutting margins, Audi prefers to slightly boost the technical arguments of its electric SUV. Here comes an update centered around a new battery with revised chemistry. The net capacity is now 77 kWh, which means the 51.5 kWh “small version 40” disappears from the lineup. Now, for the same starting price of 53,000 euros, the Q4 e-tron has gained in performance… but not in range.

Charging times are also reduced thanks to higher charging speeds: 175 kW for all-wheel-drive versions and 135 kW for rear-wheel-drive models.

In terms of performance, power now ranges from 286 to 340 horsepower, compared to 204 to 299 horsepower previously. The range thus stabilizes at 532 km for the most frugal Q4 45 e-tron despite the increased power, against 534 km previously with the Q4 40 e-tron version at 204 hp.

Accelerations have slightly improved, with 0 to 100 km/h times as follows:

  • 6.7 seconds for the 45 two-wheel-drive version (286 hp)
  • 6.6 seconds for the 44 quattro all-wheel-drive version
  • 5.4 seconds for the 55 quattro all-wheel-drive version (340 hp)

In all cases, the maximum speed is limited to 180 km/h. Up to 25 km/h, the Audi Q4 e-tron will optionally emit a “characteristic” sound, according to the German manufacturer, via two external speakers. A gadget that isn’t very useful, or even grotesque in the case of the Abarth 500e

The pricing details will be announced very soon, but it is already known that the entry price remains unchanged: 53,000 euros with fairly minimal equipment. It’s unlikely that this update will cause Mercedes and Tesla to tremble…
