The Nio Firefly arrives in Europe, but not in France

The Chinese manufacturer Nio is preparing the arrival of its new affordable electric city car, the Firefly, in the European market.
Unveiled in April 2025 in China, the Firefly marks Nio’s first foray into the small electric car segment. The manufacturer has just revealed its distribution plan in Europe, with a launch expected as early as October 2025. This is good news, but unfortunately, France is not among the countries included in this launch.

Designed to appeal to a young audience looking for affordable and connected vehicles, the Firefly has a starting price of around 15,000 euros. Measuring 4 meters long, it stands out with its design that some will find modern; others will consider polarizing, with its round LED headlights and two-tone roof. The cabin focuses on technology with a multifunction steering wheel, a 100% digital dashboard, and a floating central screen. A generous 92-liter frunk and storage spaces under the rear seats complement the small 200-liter trunk for a total that is more than adequate. Nio also emphasizes safety by using certified materials suitable… for infants. After all, if it’s good for the baby, it’s good for the parents.
Small but ambitious
Under the hood, the Firefly features a 141-horsepower electric motor at the rear, allowing it to achieve a range of 418 km under the CLTC standard, which translates to just over 300 km under the European WLTP standard. Its turning radius of 4.7 meters and its automated parking system enhance its urban and practical appeal.

With 3,680 units delivered in its first full month of sales in May, the Firefly has a strong start in China. In Europe, Nio plans to launch it in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Austria. The absence of France might be explained by the tariff barriers imposed on Chinese electric cars by the European Union, unlike the United Kingdom which applies 0% customs duty and certain countries like Poland that are very welcoming to Chinese industries.
