Let’s stop comparing everything to the Tesla Model Y: there’s also the Tesla Model 3! Let’s start with what it offers and then move on to the Hyundai Ioniq 6.

So, the Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive, offered in November 2024 starting at 39,990 euros, is currently the benchmark in the sedan market. With its 60 kWh battery, it promises up to 513 km of range in mixed cycle. The equipment is abundant, including a massive glass roof, record interior space, and even a small TV at the back (but below, which makes children vomit…).

In a 36-month long-term rental (LLD) for 30,000 kilometers, Tesla charges €644 per month. No down payment here either, while maintenance, assistance, 24/7 towing, and two replacement tires are included in the package. Over the loan period, the total cost amounts to €23,184.

Hyundai, another crazy thing?

Before the refresh of the Tesla Model 3 in early 2024, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 was voted the best electric sedan in the world. The main reason? Its highly aerodynamic profile (drag coefficient of 0.21), which reduces energy consumption and ensures excellent range. Still, efficiency has fallen behind again, even if the South Korean model remains ahead thanks to a larger battery. It has 77 kWh and provides a range of 614 km in the base trim— the most economical, called Intuitive. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 Intuitive starts at 52,400 euros, which is 12,410 euros more than the Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive.

Here, the long-term rental extends over 37 months, one month longer than the Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive. The rents, without a down payment, are €559, totaling €20,683, or €20,124 for the same 36-month period as its American rival. That’s a difference of €3,060 in favor of Hyundai.

So, what’s the conclusion? They clearly follow different approaches. The Hyundai is much more straightforward and modest in its “passionate” approach. Its power does not reach 282 horsepower like the Tesla, but still 229 horsepower, and the equipment is slightly less generous. However, the quality of manufacturing and reliability are without reproach, unlike the Tesla. If you’re looking for an efficient and affordable road car, the Hyundai is for you. If the idea is to be trendy (woof woof), then Tesla is more expensive but truly fashionable.

Just to clarify, in terms of charging speed, the Ioniq 6 accepts up to 277 kW, while the Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive maxes out at 170 kW. For some clients, a detail; but for long-distance drivers, an important factor.
