Hyundai Casper, the upcoming electric rival to the Dacia Spring

Hyundai is about to launch a small electric city car in Europe to compete with the Dacia Spring. Its name: Casper.

The €25,000 electric offer from Citroën with its ë-C3 already seems too expensive for Hyundai. Their idea is to come out with a car that is smaller, similar in size to a Dacia Spring, but with better features and a price below €20,000.

Hyundai aims for around €17,000, but achieving this will require some help from the eco bonus. So, where will this charming Hyundai Casper be produced? In South Korea! Is this a deal-breaker? Probably, especially since the Dacia Spring no longer qualifies. Negotiations with the French government will be tough but not impossible. Mazda proved that it is convincing with its modest MX-30, even though it is manufactured in Japan.

Less of a “toy” than the Spring

This model, which could be renamed Ioniq 1 in the European catalog to align with Hyundai’s electric branding, offers interesting technical specifications. Much more powerful than the 65 hp of the best Spring, the Casper would have 86 hp and a battery of about 35 kWh, providing an autonomy of 300 km. Meanwhile, the Spring offers a range of up to 227 km. Perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of cities.

Currently, Hyundai’s most affordable electric model is the Kona SUV, starting at €40,850 before the €5,000 bonus.
