Here’s the ultimate argument for switching to electric cars!

Good news for the energy transition, electric cars are favored by our four-legged companions!

What if traveling by car could become a pleasure for your dog? According to a recent study conducted by Skoda and the renowned veterinarian Dr. Scott Miller, our canine friends are much less stressed when traveling in an electric car. The survey notably analyzed the heart rate of Mango, an adorable one-year-old cocker spaniel, in three different vehicles: an electric car, a gasoline car, and a diesel one.

The result? Mango remained perfectly cool in the electric Skoda Elroq model, with only a 20 beats per minute increase (from 80 to 100 BPM). In contrast, his heart raced in the gasoline (120 BPM) and diesel (125 BPM) models. During the electric ride, he was so relaxed that he almost fell asleep. In the thermal car, he seemed more nervous, often distracted.

A very serious study

This study, conducted on the iconic Top Gear track, also marks Škoda’s partnership with the famous dog show Crufts 2025. But beyond the numbers, why are electric cars better for dogs? Dr. Miller explains: “The silent engines, the absence of gear changes, and the spacious interior create a calming environment for our furry companions.”

A survey by Škoda of 1,500 dog owners reveals that 32% are concerned about their dog’s anxiety in the car, and more than half completely avoid taking them on certain trips. Yet, nearly a third of respondents believe that electric cars offer a more comfortable ride for their pups.

So, if switching to electric is not yet on the agenda, specialist Anna Webb shares some essential tips for a dog-friendly trip: install a harness or secure crate, monitor signs of stress (panting, barking), promote a calm environment with a chill playlist, and above all… drive gently!
