To see the Alpine A290, come to Belgium not France!

A copy of the 100% electric Alpine A290 has been on display this week in the charming seaside resort of Knokke Le Zoute.

It is commonly said that a product must meet its audience, so it’s no surprise to find the brand new Alpine A290 at the heart of the Belgian resort of Knokke-Heist. Knokke is an extraordinary open-air automotive museum where you can spot a Ferrari 458 Pista or a Porsche 911 Dakar every day. However, the streets are primarily filled with a swarm of 100% electric vehicles like Tesla, Polestar, Zeekr, or BYD. Since it is not strictly a luxury car or an ultra-sporty model, the new Alpine finds its place here due to its 100% electric powertrain!

Belgium, a land of conquest for Alpine

In Belgium, perhaps more than anywhere else in Europe, everything is designed to facilitate the transition to electric mobility. In the city, it’s impossible to go 200 meters without encountering a charger. When you go shopping at a shopping center, you are greeted by at least a dozen 11 kW chargers and a handful of 150 kW fast chargers. A quick stop in the Monnaie parking lot in the heart of Brussels’ shopping area on Rue Neuve offers another 20 chargers at your disposal. It’s not complicated; with a Chargemap Pass, you are the king of the world!

It is therefore obvious that the Alpine A290 and its popular sibling, the Renault 5, will find their audience in Belgium. Besides the astonishing ease of finding a charging solution, highways are limited to 120 km/h, a speed respected by the vast majority of drivers. If you didn’t already know, this speed is the perfect compromise between consumption and range on fast roads. This guarantees low consumption and fewer stops during long trips. A lesson for us, poor French folks, which is nothing short of a Belgian story.
