ElectricBrands XBus

The small electric van from ElectricBrands should eventually arrive on the roads. The German company has just found a manufacturing partner in the Netherlands.

The 21st-century Combi: that’s the nickname some have given to the XBus, ElectricBrands’ small electric van. The vehicle is not yet on the market, but the project is progressing. ElectricBrands has indeed just found a production partner. It is VDL Nedcar, a Dutch company also chosen by the BMW group for the production of the new Mini Electric Cabriolet.

“We have sufficient capacity to cover ElectricBrands’ current order volume, as well as upcoming peak orders and long-term orders”, promised John van Soerland, CEO of VDL Nedcar. On its website, ElectricBrands states that it has recorded just over 16,000 orders so far. Deliveries were scheduled to start in 2024, but that timeline will not be met. The new goal is to begin production in the second quarter of 2025.

ElectricBrands’ ambition is to offer a wide variety of body styles (pick-up, camper van, utility vehicle, minibus, etc). Currently, prices start at just over €17,000, but can rise to over €30,000 for the most expensive configuration of the XBus.

ElectricBrands will first focus on its Isetta

It is also at the VDL Nedcar factory that the production of the Evetta, another vehicle marketed by ElectricBrands, will take place. This reinterpretation of the Isetta is also equipped with an all-electric motorization. It will compete with the Microlino, which looks very much alike—both models actually originate from a single project, split into two after a rather adventurous story.

The production of the Evetta will start before that of the XBus. The first units are expected to roll off the assembly lines in the second quarter of 2024. Reservations are already open, with an initial price just below €20,000. An impressive fully convertible version will also be available in the catalog, costing over €30,000.
