Electric Cars Surpass Gasoline Vehicles in France!

In September 2025, electric vehicles reach a 20.8% market share, surpassing gasoline cars for the first time.

In September 2025, the French electric car market reached a symbolic milestone. According to the latest registration barometer from Avere-France, 100% electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles even reached a 26.5% market share. A true sign of maturity for zero-emission rechargeable mobility in France.

In total, 45,171 electrified vehicles were registered this month, including 35,456 100% electric cars, up +16.6% compared to September 2024. This momentum confirms the growing interest from individuals and businesses in more ecological and economical models.

The market does not progress in a linear way but shows regular growth peaks. In July, registrations had already reached 31,107 units (+9.4%), driven by 100% electric models (+16.8%). In August, they surged to 25,011 units (+21.5%), with a 31.7% increase for 100% electric. Even in April, the barometer displayed a market share of 22.3%, attesting to continuous progress despite monthly fluctuations.

This acceleration is explained by a combination of factors: a wider range of models, expanding charging infrastructure, financial incentives, and increased environmental awareness among consumers. Clément Molizon, general delegate of Avere-France, also highlights the role of individuals, who have returned massively to the market thanks to social leasing and government aid.
