New 2022 DS3 Electric: Over 400 km of Range

Through its (slight) restyling, the DS3 drops the Crossback suffix but gains a new battery to increase its range.

With only 700 units sold in France at the start of the year, the electric DS3 struggles to convince. It doesn’t even make it into the Top 20 electric vehicles of 2022. But its new version may revive interest in it.

An aesthetic update

First of all, the name changes. No longer call it DS 3 Crossback but DS3. Like the DS7, the Crossback designation is no longer relevant, as the range is now almost entirely made up of SUVs and crossovers.

For the 2022 version, DS Automobiles has not altered the character of its elevated city car. The lateral shark fin and the high appearance remain, as do the headlights. The French brand has preferred to redesign the front lower part to look more aggressive, as well as the grille, which is darker and slightly enlarged. The manufacturer has also reshaped the inside of the headlights.

The rear and interior, on the other hand, remain unchanged. The infotainment system still evolves within the 10.3-inch central touchscreen. The MyDS app also appears for various remote functions: route, climate control startup, etc.

A new battery for the DS3

You might think DS didn’t put in much effort. Not at all, since the entire mechanical part changes. While the petrol Puretech 110/130 hp and BlueHDi 130 hp diesel versions continue, the electric version is entirely new.

Goodbye the 100 kW motor, hello the 115 kW (156 hp) unit unveiled by the new Peugeot e-308 electric. Efficiency is better, with a consumption of 12.6 kWh/100 km according to the brand. The DS3 E-tense also features its 54 kWh battery, providing a range of 403 kilometers.

If the Mini Electric starts at €35,700, its size is more compact, and its range is only 230 km. The Fiat 500e, also smaller, offers prices starting at €34,700 with a 42 kWh battery and 3+1 body style. But again, the range is limited—at best 321 kilometers.
