Fiat 500 Electric 2023: Range and Price of the Stylish City Car

This is probably the cutest of all the small electric city cars. Here is all the information about the Fiat 500, its prices, and its range.

Launched in 2020, the new Fiat 500 rides on the success of the modern Cinquecento offered in the Italian manufacturer’s catalog since 2007. While the latter continues its long career in micro-hybrid version, the new 500 is built on an entirely new all-electric platform. Even though Fiat now belongs to the same group as Peugeot, Opel, or Citroën, its technical base has nothing in common with that of the Peugeot e-208 and other DS3.

Fiat 500 Dimensions and Engines

The Fiat 500 electric measures 3.63 meters long, 1.68 meters wide, and 1.53 meters high. Slightly larger than the combustion-powered Fiat 500, it remains smaller and less spacious than city cars like the Renault ZOE (4.09 meters) or Peugeot e-208 (4.06 meters).

The Fiat 500 still makes the effort to offer reasonably spacious rear seats, even if its trunk isn’t a miracle with 185 liters (338 liters on a Zoe). Note that optionally, a small side door can be added on the right side to facilitate access to the rear seats by choosing the 3+1 variant. Unique in its class, it also offers a very nice convertible version with a sliding roof.

In terms of motorization, the 500 electric offers a choice between two motors: a small 95-horsepower motor paired with 24 kWh batteries or the same motor upgraded to 118 horsepower with 42 kWh batteries. The first 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, the second in a precise 9 seconds. Slightly better than a Zoe with 135 horsepower.

Battery Range and Charging of the Fiat 500

With the small 24 kWh battery, the range is limited to 185 km according to the WLTP standard. It rises to 320 km with the 42 kWh battery in its least equipped version, close to the 362 km of a Peugeot e-208. With this larger battery, the range exceeds that of the Mini Cooper SE (225 km) or Renault Twingo E-Tech, rated at 190 km.

The Fiat 500 supports AC charging up to 11 kW, allowing its batteries to be charged from 0 to 100% in just over two hours with the 24 kWh batteries and 4h15 with the 42 kWh batteries.

The 500e with small batteries can be fast-charged at 50 kW DC (38 minutes to reach 80%), while the larger version supports 85 kW fast charging (35 minutes from 0 to 80%). In its category, only the Peugeot e-208 supports even higher DC charging power (100 kW).

What is the Price of the Fiat 500?

Available starting at €25,000 at launch, the Fiat 500 has been affected by inflation. The Italian city car starts at €30,400 for the 24 kWh version with Pack Confort trim since 2023. The Comfort, Style, and Tech trims, which are cumulative, replace the old Action or Icone versions. For larger batteries and the more powerful motor, the price begins at €33,900. Even with the larger battery, it remains slightly cheaper than other electric city cars that are bigger (Peugeot e-208, Renault ZOE). The Renault Twingo E-Tech, on the other hand, is more affordable with an initial price around €25,000.

Like all its competitors, it benefits naturally from the €5,000 ecological bonus, which can be extended to €7,000 for low-income earners. Its batteries are guaranteed for 8 years and 160,000 kilometers. Note that the car is manufactured in Mirafiori, Italy, and its batteries are supplied by Samsung SDI.

Soon to be joined by the electric Panda?

This 500e will no longer be the only electric vehicle in Fiat’s lineup soon. The Italian manufacturer is preparing other zero-emission models, including a 600X SUV. A 100% electric Panda is also in development, which should borrow technical elements from the 208 or Corsa. Will it be just as charming?
