Volvo EX30 remise

Volvo is offering a systematic discount of 1600 euros on its EX30 electric cars, which are already available in stock. Interesting?

A month ago, in early June 2024, Volvo raised the price of its electric compact, the EX30, by 1600 euros. At the end of July, without any fanfare or city advertisements, the Sino-Swedish manufacturer (production is currently in China and the owner is Geely) is reversing its decision.

The promotion of dozens and dozens of EX30 currently in stock, which were delivered to dealerships in anticipation of the long journey from China, effectively cancels out this 1600 euro increase. If you move forward and then back…

37,500 euros, the fair price?

So here is the Volvo EX30 back to its original price of 37,500 euros. However, in the absence of an environmental bonus – again due to its Chinese production, but its return to Europe seems confirmed – the relevance of this compact in its base version is very limited.

Mobiwisy has already pitted the EX30 against its number one rival in terms of philosophy, the Renault Megane E-Tech. But since then, many factors have changed. The Tesla Model Y Propulsion has dropped to 36,990 euros (for how long?) with features that are in a completely different league. The same goes for an electric Renault Scenic, and the list goes on.

The first problem with the Volvo EX30 is therefore its price. Its market value would be more around 32-33,000 euros. Furthermore, we are discussing the entry-level version with electric performance that again is hardly relevant. Offering 272 horsepower but a real range of less than 280 km (337 km in WLTP mixed cycle) shows a lack of seriousness in priority setting. Customers would be satisfied with 150 horsepower in exchange for a real range of 400 km. Producing dragsters does not meet daily needs.

The story does not mention the potential “extra discount” that can be negotiated directly with the dealer. Because Volvo will not be able to unload entire cargos of EX30 from China without selling them in Europe. Therefore, how should this current discount of 1600 euros be interpreted? Is there better to come? It’s quite probable!
