Customs in China: Will the Dacia Spring Soon Be €3,000 More Expensive?

Produced in China by Dongfeng, the Dacia Spring is affected by the increase in tariffs on electric cars.

This decision will please Citroën and its ë-C3. Due to its production in China, the Dacia Spring will continue its decline in France, but also in Europe. Indeed, in the case of the Renault group’s electric city car, tariffs will rise from 21% to 31%.

Currently sold starting at 18,900 euros for its entry-level version, the new Dacia Spring could see a price adjustment upwards starting July 1, 2024. Otherwise, the manufacturer will have to cut its margin… which is unlikely. At the same time, the Citroën ë-C3 starts at 19,300 euros thanks to the ecological bonus.

Up to 3000 euros increase?

This information is not commented on by Dacia, which is continuing its calculations before making a statement. Indeed, the calculation base is complex and each manufacturer will be able to “manipulate” the valuation of their cars at the time of import. This is the entire game that will unfold between the European Union and Chinese manufacturers.

If we make a fairly simple extrapolation, this 21% increase would equate to a second VAT, which is about 3,800 euros in the case of the entry-level Dacia Spring. Since the calculation base is much lower, we can reasonably think that the sales price will increase by 1,500 to 3,000 euros depending on the models and trims. This will reduce the gap, or even give the advantage to a Citroën ë-C3, which is more mature and appealing.
