Alpine Alpenglow: The Beginning of a New Story

The Alpenglow concept embodies the future of Alpine. It will be showcased at the Paris Motor Show, which opens its doors on October 17.

“The mother of all future Alpines”, whether they are road or racing cars: this is how the Dieppe-based company presents its new Alpenglow concept. Through this vehicle, Alpine aims to find the magic formula that will reconcile “authentic” driving pleasure with clean energy.

The name Alpenglow is not an invention of Alpine. The term already exists and refers to the reddish glow that appears on mountains at dawn. The analogy is easy to establish: this concept predicts the beginning of a new era for Alpine, just as the alpenglow announces a new day.

A Hydrogen Engine

The Alpenglow is powered by an internal combustion engine that runs on hydrogen. The two tanks are located on the sides, on either side of the driver, who is positioned centrally. The vehicle’s power output has not been disclosed.

The Alpine concept contains many interesting details. Notably, the transparent movable rear wing, the light signature tinged red at the front and blue at the back, the wheels that draw snowflakes, or the transparent backlit paddles around the steering wheel.

A few years after its resurrection, Alpine is on the verge of a major change. The manufacturer is about to close the chapter on combustion engines to enter the electric era. The Alpenglow concept shows that hydrogen is also a credible alternative. “Future mobility will be a mix of carbon-neutral solutions, with a natural complementarity between battery electric vehicles (BEV), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), and others equipped with hybrid internal combustion engines running on sustainable fuel, which could be green hydrogen”, explains Alpine on this topic.
