BYD ATTO 8: Seven Seats and a Nine-Minute Charge!

Traveling seven in an electric vehicle without extending long breaks: that is the promise of the BYD ATTO 8, unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.
Expected in Europe in the first quarter of 2027, this large SUV from BYD relies on two main selling points to attract families: a spacious interior and particularly fast charging.
At 5.04 meters long, the ATTO 8 embraces its imposing size. Its three rows can accommodate seven occupants, with a trunk that retains 270 liters when all seats are in use. A front compartment of 136 liters adds to this capacity, which is welcome for holiday departures. By folding down the two rear rows, the main volume reaches 1,960 liters.
Comfort also receives some attention: heated, ventilated, and massaging seats in the front and on the side seats of the second row, three-zone climate control, and controls dedicated to rear passengers. It remains to be seen, during a test drive, how comfortable the last two occupants really are.
BYD and Blade Technology
But the real technical argument lies beneath the floor. The second-generation Blade battery, with a capacity of 115 kWh, benefits from FLASH Charging technology. BYD claims a charge from 10 to 70% in five minutes and from 10 to 97% in nine minutes. At −30 °C, the manufacturer still promises a charge from 20 to 97% in twelve minutes.
However, these performances assume an appropriate infrastructure. BYD thus plans to install 3,000 FLASH Charging stations in Europe by the end of 2027. Their availability on family routes will therefore be crucial.
Two versions are announced: a rear-wheel drive model with 462 hp, rated for 653 km of WLTP range, and an all-wheel drive model with 775 hp, rated for 602 km. Impressive figures, but families will especially be waiting for the price, which is still absent from the announcement. Because transporting seven people and fast charging won’t be enough: it will also have to convince at the time of signing the order form.
