Jaguar Type 01: The Bet on Disruption, at the Risk of Displeasing
With its new electric GT unveiled in New York, Jaguar aims to start anew. A spectacular ambition, but an aesthetic choice that frankly leaves us doubtful.
It is very difficult to talk about a car when you know it will be loved or hated. Every curve becomes a manifesto, every criticism registers as nostalgia. With the Jaguar Type 01, the discussion begins even before getting behind the wheel. And it risks never going beyond the bodywork.

Jaguar has taken the gamble of rupture. Its new four-door electric GT boasts a long hood, a low roofline, and a spectacular silhouette. The brand references the Type E and XJS to place this revolution in its history. But invoking its past glories is not enough to make a proposal desirable.
A Jaguar or a stylistic exercise?
In our view, the gamble seems to be a losing one. Not because a Jaguar should eternally resemble a Jaguar of yesterday, but because this quest for uniqueness seems to overshadow the obviousness of the design. One can admire the audacity without being charmed by the result. Here, the divisive nature of the model seems to constitute more of an obstacle than an argument.
The technical specifications are certainly ambitious. Jaguar announces over 1,000 hp, an 850-volt electric architecture, and a range of 643 kilometers according to the American EPA cycle. The charging could provide 321 kilometers in thirteen minutes on a 350 kW charger. Impressive figures that will, of course, require confirmation under real conditions.
Designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, the Type 01 will be offered in Australia for around 300,000 Australian dollars, excluding on-road costs. At this level, attracting attention is no longer enough: it must provoke a purchase.
This highlights all the uncertainty of this rebirth. Jaguar has certainly succeeded in provoking a reaction. The challenge remains to transform this attention into lasting desire. Our view is skeptical; the future and sales will be the only judges.
