At Opel, muscle will soon no longer be reserved for the most powerful versions. With the new Astra GSE Line, the German manufacturer is preparing a trim designed to give its compact a sporty appearance, regardless of the chosen energy source. Electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid, or gasoline: everyone will be able to don the tracksuit.
Unveiled at the Paris Auto Show 2026, this variant will replace the current GS trim in spring 2027. It will retain the standard equipment while enhancing its visual personality. Diamond-cut wheels will measure 17 inches as standard, or 18 inches as an option.
Sporty in appearance
The interior follows the same recipe. Bright yellow stitching adorns the seats, steering wheel, door panels, and central armrest, while an aluminum pedal set completes the presentation. Sport seats with integrated headrests will be offered as an option on certain engines.
Behind this new name, Opel is mainly looking to extend the image of its GSE electric models. But beware of the badge: GSE Line designates here a trim level, without an automatic promise of additional performance. The GSE acronym stands for “Grand Sport Electric,” which will require a bit of explanation when this presentation dresses a gasoline Astra.
Power enthusiasts will nevertheless have a reason to wait. Opel announces an exclusive version of 280 hp, accompanied by specific equipment, later in 2027. Its powertrain details are still to be confirmed. Other models will also receive the GSE Line trim during the same year. No pricing has been announced yet.
