Flash McQueen engaged in the Monza F1 Grand Prix!

Monza certainly holds great emotions for Pierre Gasly. Six years after his victory on the Italian circuit, the Frenchman claimed his first pole position in Formula 1 there. Driving his Alpine, he outqualified George Russell’s Mercedes and secured France’s 80th pole, twenty-nine years after Jean Alesi’s on the same track.

The Norman will, however, have a tough time maintaining control from the moment the lights go out. Russell will be situated alongside him, while Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will occupy the second row in front of the tifosi. The two Ferrari drivers benefit from the penalty imposed on Oscar Piastri after qualifying.

Having set the third fastest time, the Australian received a three-place penalty for impeding Liam Lawson in Q2. The McLaren driver will therefore start sixth, alongside Max Verstappen, who is also promoted by one position.

Alpine’s collective performance is also demonstrated by Franco Colapinto’s seventh place, ahead of Lando Norris. With both cars in the top seven, the French team has a chance to score significant points. Arvid Lindblad and Gabriel Bortoleto complete the top ten.

Further back, Esteban Ocon will have to deal with a fourteenth starting position. The Cadillacs of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez are ahead of the Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.

Finally, penalties related to engine component changes push Kimi Antonelli, Alexander Albon, and Liam Lawson to the last three positions. A long Sunday of recovery awaits them.
