Škoda Peaq: 936 km of range for a 7-seater SUV, the comeback of efficiency!

Škoda Record

The Škoda Peaq sets a record for a seven-seater electric SUV and shows that there is another way to increase range: maximize the available energy rather than multiplying kilowatt-hours.

How far can an electric SUV go when trying to make the most of every kilowatt-hour? Škoda has just provided a spectacular answer. Its new Peaq 90 traveled 936 km without recharging, from Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic to Zandvoort in the Netherlands.

The journey, conducted with a production car under the supervision of TÜV SÜD, resulted in an average consumption of only 9.2 kWh/100 km. This is an impressive feat for the largest SUV in the Škoda lineup, capable of carrying up to seven occupants.

The Peaq used for this record had a 91 kWh battery (86 kWh usable), a 210 kW motor driving the rear wheels, and low rolling resistance tires on 19-inch wheels. Its particularly refined aerodynamics achieve a Cx of 0.249.

Škoda invites reflection

The result is spectacular: the 936 km traveled represents 289 km more than the WLTP range of 647 km, a gain of nearly 45%. Of course, the conditions of the route and the driving style were carefully optimized. But the performance especially highlights a trend that could become decisive for the next generations of electric vehicles.

Rather than continually increasing battery capacity, why not first seek to use the energy they contain more intelligently? A larger battery indeed increases range, but it also increases the vehicle’s mass. Every additional kilogram must be moved, accelerated, and then braked. Weight thus becomes an enemy of efficiency.

The Peaq’s record paves the way for a different philosophy: doing more with less, through aerodynamics, tires, energy management, and optimizing each component.

And with already more than 10,000 orders, the large Škoda seems to have found its audience.
