BYD Explodes in France: The Chinese Manufacturer Surpasses Its 2025 Sales Already

The Chinese manufacturer BYD continues its rise and has already registered more cars in France than during the entire year of 2025.

BYD is taking a leap in France. With 14,348 passenger cars registered since the beginning of the year 2026, the Chinese manufacturer has already surpassed its total for the entire year of 2025 (14,311 units). This symbolic milestone confirms the brand’s acceleration in a French market that remains highly competitive.

In the first half alone, BYD has recorded 13,935 registrations, representing a 136% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The brand now accounts for about 1.6% of the French passenger car market. While this share is still modest compared to major historical manufacturers, it indicates a particularly rapid rise.

BYD is moving fast

June marks a new milestone. With 5,155 registrations, BYD reaches 2.7% of the monthly market share for the first time and becomes the leading Chinese manufacturer in France. This achievement comes as Chinese brands strengthen their presence in Europe despite a more complex regulatory context and higher tariffs on imported electric vehicles.

The main driver of this growth is currently the range of plug-in hybrid vehicles. BYD claims 8,374 registrations of PHEV models in the first half, which represents a 17.3% market share in this segment. Its DM-i system, combining more than 100 km of electric range depending on the version and over 1,000 km of total range, meets the demand from customers who wish to limit their consumption without relying solely on charging infrastructure.

This growth is also supported by rapid development of the commercial network. BYD now has nearly 120 dealerships in France, up from 85 at the end of 2025, a network that enhances the brand’s visibility and its after-sales service. If this dynamic continues in the second half, BYD could firmly establish itself as one of the new major players in electrified mobility in the French market.
