Audi bets on hybrid diesel for the launch of the new large SUV Q7

Audi opens orders for the new Q7 with an electrified V6 Diesel, ahead of the arrival of plug-in hybrid versions in 2027.

The new Audi Q7 makes a contrary choice. While most manufacturers are now focusing on their plug-in hybrid or fully electric models, the ringed brand is launching the third generation of its large SUV with a single electrified Diesel engine. This intentional strategy primarily targets high-mileage drivers and families who enjoy long trips.

Available for order in France starting today at €99,150, the new Q7 will be delivered from November 2026. At launch, it relies exclusively on a V6 3.0 TDI with 299 hp delivering 630 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with MHEV plus technology, a 48-volt mild hybrid system, as well as an electric compressor designed to enhance low-end responsiveness.

A Diesel to Experience According to Audi

Audi promises a smoother drive, better efficiency, and top-notch performance. The SUV claims a 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, a maximum speed of 235 km/h, and retains a towing capacity of 3.5 tons, an appealing feature for a segment of its clientele.

This third generation also benefits from a significant aesthetic renewal. The front adopts a new Singleframe grille, sleeker Matrix LED headlights, and standard digital OLED rear lights. The interior also evolves with a 12.3-inch passenger display integrated as standard and a configurable arrangement for five, six, or seven seats.

The plug-in hybrid e-hybrid versions will enrich the range during the first quarter of 2027. In the meantime, Audi bets that a modernized and electrified Diesel remains the most relevant solution for a large family SUV designed to cover many kilometers. At a time when many competitors are gradually abandoning this technology, this launch shows that Diesel still holds a place in premium segments, especially when paired with a mild electrification aimed at reducing consumption and emissions.
