Lucid is set to become a real Saudi manufacturer.

Lucid Motors is about to reach a major strategic milestone in Saudi Arabia with a new certified origin label.

Long limited to reassembly operations, Lucid’s industrial presence in the Kingdom is transitioning toward full production of electric vehicles. An evolution that profoundly alters the nature of the project… and the industrial identity of the American manufacturer.

In a recent interview, Faisal Sultan, president of Lucid Motors Middle East, confirmed that seven to eight buildings are already completed on the Saudi site. This infrastructure will eventually enable the manufacturing of vehicles entirely on-site, without relying on partially assembled units from the United States. In other words, Lucid will no longer just assemble: it will produce.

Where the Sun Shines

Located in King Abdullah Economic City, the AMP-2 factory, inaugurated in 2023, had until now a very particular role. Cars were fully constructed in the AMP-1 factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, then dismantled before being shipped as kits to Saudi Arabia for reassembly. This transitional solution was primarily designed to train local teams and refine industrial processes.

The volumes reflected this caution. At its inception, AMP-2 reassembled about 16 to 20 vehicles per day. A deliberately slow pace, accepted by Lucid to prioritize skill development over immediate intensive production. A necessary learning phase before aiming bigger.

And the ambitions are clear. Lucid plans to transform AMP-2 into a true industrial hub capable of producing vehicles “from scratch,” with a target annual capacity of up to 150,000 units. Most importantly, these vehicles will not be destined solely for the local market: Saudi Arabia is set to become a global export hub for the brand, far beyond the Gulf.
