Tesla doesn’t bother and electronically restricts the performance of its two new models called Standard. Model 3 and Model Y thus have a limited range of 321 miles in the United States (516 km) according to the EPA mixed cycle. An excellent value overall, especially since the US homologation cycle is the closest to everyday reality.
What sets the Tesla Model 3 Standard apart is not the least of its downgraded standard features. The glass roof remains, for example, while the seats are made of fabric and faux leather. Note that the steering wheel remains heated, which is strange. The audio system drops to 7 speakers.
Like the Tesla Model Y Standard, the charging power also shows a significant increase, going from 175 to 225 kW. This suggests that the battery pack is from the Long Range Dual Motor version (250 kW charging power), and not from the Standard Motor version.
Externally, only the ultra-slim wheel covers distinguish the Standard version from the Dual Motor. And beyond that, they are almost identical.
In the United States, this “Mexican” Tesla’s price starts at $36,990 before taxes (about €31,700), roughly €38,000 in Europe. That’s more than the current Dual Motor Model 3 priced from €36,990.
