Add Wireless Android Auto to Your Car with the Motorola MA1

The Motorola MA1 allows you to cut the wire of compatible wired Android Auto infotainment systems.

Partnering with Motorola, the Chinese company SGW Global took advantage of CES, the international innovation fair, to present the Motorola MA1. It is a wireless adapter for Android Auto.

Android Auto is for Android smartphones what CarPlay is for iPhones: a solution allowing the display on your car’s screen of a tailored version of certain applications installed on a smartphone. Android Auto and CarPlay, for example, enable enjoying Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze on your car’s screen, as well as Apple Music, Deezer, or Spotify, or even iMessage, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp.

Launched respectively in 2014 and 2015, CarPlay and Android Auto are now available on many vehicles. Most often, only wired. You need to connect and disconnect your smartphone from your car via a USB cable with each trip.

Automatic connection

But simply plugging the Motorola MA1 into the appropriate USB port of your car allows you to enjoy wireless Android Auto. From then on, the phone connects automatically, and Android Auto displays automatically when you start your car. All this without any manual operation or even taking your phone out of your pocket or bag. One drawback: using a navigation app and often an online music service consumes a lot of energy. You will need to recharge your phone if used for a long period. Ideally, with a wireless induction charger!

The Motorola MA1 is already listed on the official Motorola Sound website. The page states it will be available in the United States starting January 30, 2022, but also mentions a price in euros, of 90 euros. So we can hope that the store will be able to ship it to France and Europe.
