Xpeng P7: 100,000 units of the electric sedan

Chinese manufacturer Xpeng announced that it has produced over 100,000 units of its large electric sedan P7, becoming an essential player in the automotive industry.
Just three years ago, Xpeng (or Xiaopeng locally) was completely unknown, even in China. The rise was therefore meteoric for this very recent manufacturer, which launched its first car only in December 2018.
A true rival to the Tesla Model S?
After the inaugural model G3, a modest compact SUV, the Xpeng P7 demonstrated the brand’s ambitions. It can be compared to the Tesla Model S. This is normal, as it is a competitor to the American sedan. Launched in June 2020, this large 4.88-meter electric car offers quite similar ranges.

Four versions are available with an 80.9 kWh battery. Three with a 267-horsepower motor are rear-wheel drive (2WD), the “480,” “586,” and “706,” reflecting their range (652 on a Model S). The other variant is an all-wheel-drive “Performance” with 2 motors delivering 430 hp, but reducing the range to 562 km.
The Xpeng P7 is cheaper than the Model 3
While the Xpeng P7 does not reach the performance level of a Model S Plaid, it attempts to compensate with technology. Equipped with dozens of sensors and an onboard NVIDIA Xavier computer adapted for automotive use, the electric sedan offers a Level 2 semi-automatic driving feature “XPilot” and remote automatic parking.
Most notably, the price of the Xpeng sets it apart from Tesla. The lineup starts at just 239,900 yuan, or 34,230 euros, which is less expensive than the base Model 3 (279,900 yuan)! This probably explains the car’s popularity.

The Xpeng P7 celebrated its 100,000th unit on March 23, 2022, less than two years after its launch. This may be the first electric car from a Chinese automaker to reach this symbolic milestone. The sedan continues to be produced at the Zhaoqing factory in China.
An Xpeng P7 already in Europe!
And the large Chinese company is not stopping at its domestic market. The Xpeng P7 arrived in Norway, the leader in electric vehicles, as early as October 2021. It then expanded to the other two major electrified markets, Sweden and the Netherlands, in February 2022. However, it has not yet planned to cover France or other countries for now. Could its smaller sibling, the compact P5, better enter the French market?
