Mercedes EQA

The basic Mercedes EQA makes significant progress in range, but it also costs much more.

Mercedes has just updated the EQA lineup, its fully electric compact SUV. The old base version 250 has been replaced by a 250+ offering greater range.

Thanks to a larger battery capacity (70.5 kWh vs 66.6 kWh), the Mercedes EQA 250+ quite clearly surpasses 500 km of range. In theory, it can now travel 531 km between charges (WLTP mixed cycle), which is 102 km more than the EQA 250. However, with certain options, the vehicle’s range can drop to 489 km.

This gain, quite impressive considering the relatively limited increase in battery capacity, was not achieved at the expense of performance. On the contrary, the EQA 250+ improves its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration by 0.3 seconds, now reaching it in 8.6 seconds. The electric motor’s power remains at 190 hp, but torque increases by 10 Nm to reach 385 Nm.

Prices Increase by Several Thousand Euros

These improvements lead to a significant price hike. While the EQA 250 originally started at €49,900, the new 250+ requires a minimum of €55,750. It remains eligible for the €2,000 bonus.

The Mercedes EQA 350 4Matic retains its 66.5 kWh battery. More powerful (292 hp), more performant, and thus more energy-consuming than the 250+, it now lags far behind in range (between 411 and 438 km depending on the configuration). Even without technical upgrades, its price increases by €3,500. The minimum price for this model is now €64,700, which is not eligible for the ecological bonus, capped at €60,000.
