BYD: A New Chinese Manufacturer in Europe

BYD plans to launch 3 electric models in Europe this fall.
BYD is an important player in the Chinese automotive industry. In just the first half of 2022, this manufacturer sold nearly 650,000 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles on its domestic market.
Like MG Motors, like Aiways, like Seres or Nio, BYD – which stands for Build Your Dreams – now aims to break into the Old Continent. Launched in Norway last year, its expansion will extend to new European markets in the coming months. Starting this fall, BYD will arrive in several northern European countries. An entry into France is certainly on the agenda, but it will happen later.
BYD will commercialize three fully electric models: the Atto 3, Tang, and Han. These vehicles will be showcased at the Paris Motor Show, which opens to the public on October 18.
A compact electric SUV as a flagship
Placed in the compact SUV segment, the Atto 3 will have dimensions comparable to a Peugeot 3008. This is likely the model that will account for the majority of sales in Europe. The Tang, a 7-seater SUV with larger dimensions, will probably be released on a smaller scale, even though it is already experiencing some success in Norway. With a length of 5 meters, the Han sedan will position itself as a rival to the Tesla Model S. It will also be in a less popular segment than the Atto 3.
BYD has not yet provided details about its distribution network in France. The manufacturer has also not announced pricing, but everything suggests that their models will be particularly attractive.
