Peugeot e-308 Official: Info, Photos, and Video of the Electric Car

The Peugeot e-308 is the new 100% electric version of the compact car, which will offer sedan and wagon SW body styles next year.

Two models then nothing. After the i0n, a clone of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, the manufacturer launched the second generation of electric cars. In 2019 and 2020, the Peugeot e-208 and e-2008 were born. Initially shy in sales, they have managed to win over the public. The city car is now the number one electric in 2022, supported by a range of up to 362 km. After more than two years of waiting, here is the big sister, the Peugeot e-308.

Peugeot had promised for a long time that there would indeed be a 100% electric version of the compact car. As with the 208, the appearance is identical to the thermal and plug-in hybrid variants.

Moreover, the Lion brand does not dwell on the subject and simply states that new 18-inch wheels will be available. The interior will also be the same, with:

Good news, the e-308 will have two different body styles. The compact sedan will therefore compete with the Renault Mégane E-Tech, Volkswagen ID.3, and the future MG 4. The second variant is the Peugeot e-308 SW. This model will differentiate itself from rivals, but will face the MG5, currently the only electric station wagon on the market.

New engine and 400 km of range

It’s now official: the Sochaux sedan is equipped with a new 115 kW (156 hp) motor signed Nidec, providing 260 Nm of torque. In comparison, the 208 and 2008 electric have a 100 kW (136 hp) engine with similar torque. This new motor will have the same driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Brake. The latter benefits from energy regeneration during braking but does not support one-pedal driving.

As for the battery, it is also new. Moving away from the 50 kWh pack of its smaller sisters, the Peugeot e-308’s pack has a gross capacity of 54 kWh (51 kWh usable). Its composition is of the “NMC 811” type, meaning 80% nickel, 10% manganese, and 10% cobalt. A high-performance but costly battery type. This would provide a range of 400 kilometers according to the French brand. It boasts a record lower consumption for the category, at 12.7 kWh (in mixed or city cycles?).

However, charging is the same as other electric vehicles. The maximum power is 100 kW on fast chargers, allowing from 20% to 80% in “less than 25 minutes.” As for the onboard charger, it will be an 11 kW unit as standard (AC three-phase).

Launch of the Peugeot e-308 mid-2023

If the Peugeot e-308 is unveiled this fall 2022, it will only be available next year. The French manufacturer states it will arrive only “mid-2023.” And it won’t be possible to see it at the Paris Motor Show in October, as the brand will not be present.

Finally, an important unknown remains. What will be the price of the e-308? Probably close to 40,000 euros for the entry-level version, as the Allure and GT trims are not the most affordable at Peugeot. This excludes ecological bonuses, which should increase to 5,000 euros next year.
