Motorcycles and Scooters: Honda Ready for the Major Electric Offensive
This page is translated from the original post "Motos et scooters : Honda prêt pour la grande offensive électrique" in French.

Honda has just announced the arrival of several electric motorcycles and scooters in its catalog.
The transition to electrification is already well underway in the automotive sector, but it is more cautious in the two-wheeled motorized vehicle market. Nonetheless, there is no doubt that the main market players will, willingly or not, have to abandon at least in part combustion engines.
For Honda, it is clearly preferring to anticipate what seems inevitable. A strategic plan has already been put in place, and it will quickly show results. By 2025, at least 10 electric models will be launched worldwide.
Regarding volumes, Honda aims to sell 1 million electric two-wheelers over the next five years, and 3.5 million by 2030. If this latter figure is reached, electric models will then account for 15% of total sales. Furthermore, Honda’s graph clearly shows that the share of electric vehicles will continue to grow at the expense of thermal models, whose sales will eventually become negligible.

Soon, Honda Electric Motorcycles
Honda already sells small electric models for urban use, employed by postal services in Asia. The manufacturer classifies them within the “Commuters EV” category, whose boundaries are not well defined. These are presumably vehicles specifically designed for city commuting. Two new electric models of this kind will be launched between 2024 and 2025, this time aimed at private individuals. Marketed in several regions worldwide, they will be well available in Europe.
Honda will also focus part of its efforts on the segment of low-power electric scooters (i.e. limited to 25 or 50 km/h). Five new models belonging to this category are promised by 2024. Once again, Europe is among the target markets.
The family of motorcycles — or related vehicles as such — will also welcome new electric models. There will be three between 2024 and 2025, plus a small motorcycle for children. These models will also be distributed across the Old Continent.

Solid-State Batteries
Honda aims to equip its electric two-wheelers with solid-state batteries. Promising on paper, this technology interests many manufacturers, but so far, none has been able to industrialize it.
The concept of interchangeable batteries also has the favor of the Japanese company, which intends to play a significant role in standardization and development of this solution.
