Volkswagen Gen.Travel: An Electric and Autonomous Concept

A blend of sedan and minivan, this prototype positions itself as an alternative to the airplane for short trips.

German star of Chantilly Arts & Elegance, the Gen.Travel is not in the same league as Grand Turismo vehicles. This concept features Level 5 autonomous driving, allowing it to operate without any driver. There will be neither steering wheel nor pedals onboard. Only a mouse will enable passengers to adjust the seats, control the air conditioning, and of course select their favorite music. And that’s all.

The interior revolves around four seats and a table to provide a workspace if needed. The Gen.Travel can also be converted into a “night car” version with seats transforming into beds!

Note that the lighting system influences melatonin production, a natural hormone that facilitates falling asleep. Conversely, the Volkswagen Gen.Travel can also transform into a family vehicle and entertain children using augmented reality technology.

Easier access onboard

To facilitate entry, the concept car features two large butterfly doors, while the many glazed surfaces should provide plenty of natural light inside.

On the technical side, little information has been released. We know only that the propulsion is electric and that the prototype features GPS-controlled suspension, which anticipates vehicle movements based on the type of road surface, and manages acceleration and braking with precision.
