Hyundai Ioniq 6: First Impressions Inside

Mobiwisy was able to unveil the four-door coupe Hyundai Ioniq 6, four months before its commercial launch. An flagship capable of reaching 614 km in 100% electric mode.

At Hyundai, the name Ioniq was born in 2016, with a rather traditionally inspired sedan, notable for offering a choice between full hybrid, PHEV, and 100% electric powertrains.

The family quickly grew with the arrival of the Ioniq 5, which is a blend between a sedan and an SUV, a best-seller in the making, and was even named “World Car of the Year 2022”.

Three Different Power Levels

Building on the Ioniq 5, the new Ioniq 6 shares its main technical features. Offering a choice between a rear-wheel drive version and a all-wheel drive version called H-Trac, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 also comes in three power levels: 150 hp (rear-wheel drive), 229 hp (rear-wheel drive), 325 hp (4WD).

However, the key factor is range. In this aspect, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 boasts very promising figures, thanks in particular to its highly aerodynamic design. The Korean four-door coupe claims a Cx of 0.21, very close to the Mercedes EQS (Cx of 0.20), but still significantly better than the Lightyear 0 (Cx of 0.175).

Long-Distance Traveler?

According to Hyundai, the Ioniq 6 can travel up to 614 km (WLTP) on its long-range battery version (77.4 kWh), provided you opt for the 18-inch “small” wheels. With the entry-level version, equipped with the 53 kWh small battery, the range is set at 429 km (WLTP).

Regarding charging, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 comes equipped with a charger capable of handling 11 kW (AC) three-phase and can theoretically charge up to 350 kW (DC). In the absence of charging stations with such high power, you’ll have to “settle” for a peak of 239 kW, allowing to go from 10 to 80% battery in approximately 18 minutes.

We discovered this new Hyundai Ioniq 6 nearly four months before its first deliveries on the French market. While some find its design quite divisive, there is no denying that its lines are quite original. The designers clearly drew inspiration from Porsche, with a front end reminiscent of a certain Porsche Taycan, while the rear has a hint of Porsche 911 Turbo. A word on size. With 4.86 meters in length and 1.88 meters wide, the Korean model sits midway between a Tesla Model Y (4.75 m) and a Porsche Taycan (4.96 m).

A Green and Inviting Interior

The interior of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is largely inspired by that of the Ioniq 5, but some differences are worth noting. First, this novel central console incorporates extra storage compartments and controls for the electric windows. The air vents are also unique, as is the framing of the digital screens (12″ for the instrument cluster and 12.3″ for the multimedia display).

According to Hyundai, the choice of materials was driven by the desire to better respect the environment, using recycled water bottles to make the roof lining, and carpets made from fishing net nylon or tanned leather through a sustainable process. Visually, the effect is successful, and the build quality meets expectations. While access to the vehicle is slightly less practical than the Ioniq 5 due to the lower roof height, interior space is very generous. In the rear, passengers enjoy plenty of knee room, and the absence of a transmission tunnel allows a fifth passenger to sit comfortably. However, the unique design of the Ioniq 6 reduces trunk space, especially in height.

While the French lineup has not been officially revealed, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is expected to feature three trim levels: Intuitive, Creative, and Executive. Additionally, a launch edition called First Edition will be available, with a very comprehensive package. Limited to 250 units in France, its prices will be announced on November 3rd.
