Renault Kangoo E-Tech électrique

A few days before the Paris Motor Show, the news is more than ever busy on the French group’s side with the Renault Kangoo E-Tech.

After teasers of the R4 and the Alpine concept, after the presentation of the Mobilize Duo and Solo, and the electrified R5 Turbo, the French industrial giant returns with another new feature: the Kangoo E-Tech Electric.

This fully electric version of the compact van features a 90 kW motor, equivalent to 120 hp. It stores electricity in a 45 kWh battery, which offers a theoretical range of 285 km (WLTP mixed cycle). To maximize range, the driver can select an Eco driving mode, which limits the car to 56 kW and 110 km/h.

Two onboard chargers are available for alternating current (AC) charging, of 11 and 22 kW. The more powerful one can optionally be combined with a DC fast charger of 80 kW. With this, the Kangoo E-Tech can recover 170 km of range in 30 minutes.

For comparison, a Peugeot e-Rifter has a 136 hp motor and a 50 kWh battery. Despite this slightly larger capacity, the lion’s van does not outperform in range (between 273 and 282 km depending on the WLTP cycle).

A Renault Kangoo Electric Made in France

This electric version is almost identical to the thermal Kangoo, both inside and out. It is equipped with a heat pump, which reduces energy consumption from heating and air conditioning, thus allowing for additional driving distance. The windshield, front seats, and steering wheel can be optionally heated.

The electric Kangoo will be produced in France, at the Maubeuge factory. It will be showcased at the Renault booth during the Paris Motor Show. Commercial launch is scheduled for December. As of now, prices have not yet been announced.
