Lancia will unveil its three upcoming electric cars at the end of November

The revival of the Lancia brand will begin in a few days, with a first glimpse of its electric cars, including the new Ypsilon.

The former FCA group, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, was known for making big promises. This was the case for almost all brands, especially for Lancia. For decades, it lost its appeal, ending up rebadging Chrysler models that had little Italian identity. Worse, the manufacturer limited its scope to the Italian car market only, with the last remaining model, Ypsilon, based on a Fiat 500.

The return of Lancia Delta and Ypsilon

Good news, the merger with Peugeot has put Lancia back on track. The new Stellantis group aims to relaunch the transalpine brand, and plans several models, with of course a transition to electric vehicles.

In May 2022, Lancia had already confirmed plans to launch three models:

• Lancia Ypsilon in 2024
• Luxury SUV in 2026
• Lancia Delta in 2028

Still with internal combustion engines via the gasoline Lancia Ypsilon, the brand will only launch electric models starting from 2026. The combustion city car will disappear in 2028, by which time the company will have a 100% electric catalog, including the SUV and the Delta.

What do we know about future Lancia electric models?

The Ypsilon (Y or Y10 depending on the generation) has always been the upmarket version of the Fiat 500. That will no longer be the case in 2024, as it will distance itself from its 4-meter length (the Fiat measures 3.60 meters), making it a cousin of the Peugeot 208, DS3, or Opel Corsa. This city car raises questions about its “100% electrified powertrain”. Will it, like other models, have gasoline and electric versions? So, a forthcoming Lancia e-Ypsilon?

As for the “flagship” of 2026, we know that its length will be 4.60 meters and that it will be 100% electric. Lancia talks about the “largest segment in Europe”, probably referring to family SUVs. This model could be a close version of the next Peugeot e-5008, built on the STLA Medium electric platform.

The future Lancia Delta of 2028 is still distant, and its style will not be finalized for several years. Nonetheless, the brand has already hinted at this electric compact: “4.4 meters long, a sculpted and muscular car, with geometric lines.” This new generation could therefore adopt the styling of the iconic model from the 1980s.

Meeting on November 28 for a nostalgic design?

Lancia will unveil these three models on November 28. It will organize a “Design Day” event highlighting its glorious past, which is said to have inspired its future style: “the chalice, sinuous lines, and primitive geometric shapes”, as well as the “round taillights” of the Stratos.
