New Electric Cars 2023: Large SUVs and Major Updates
This page is translated from the original post "Nouveautés voitures électriques 2023 : grands SUV, grande actualité" in French.

The electric offensive is clear among the major electric SUVs in 2023, with a trio Polestar-Volvo-Lotus, a duel Audi-Mercedes, and many others.
It is through them that many manufacturers have adopted electric cars: e-tron from Audi, EQC from Mercedes-Benz, or Enyaq from Skoda. Large electric SUVs are now part of the landscape and will multiply in 2023 with more than ten new models!
They arrive early 2023
We mentioned Audi earlier; its large SUV has already evolved after three years on the market. And quite a bit, as it even changes name to Audi Q8 e-tron. With new batteries and optimized motors, it can reach up to 600 km of range. However, the price soars, with a minimum of €86,700, while the SQ8 e-tron will easily pass €100,000. Its rival also comes from Germany: the Mercedes EQE SUV. A shorter version of the EQS SUV, it develops from 292 to 408 horsepower (and 476 hp in AMG), with a 90 kWh battery giving between 468 and 568 km of range. It is even more expensive than the Q8, starting at €93,150!

The BYD Tang EV should laugh at these elitist prices. This Chinese model does not play in the same league, being more mainstream and lacking the high-tech or comfort features of the Germans. With 7 seats fitting into its 4.87 m, the Tang offers a much more affordable price, starting at €70,800. But it doesn’t sacrifice performance, with 380 kW (510 hp), although a 400 km range is a bit short for long trips. The Lexus RZ450e also arrives early 2023, larger (4.80 m) than the Toyota bZ4X on which it’s based. The Japanese car will also feature 4-wheel drive as standard and 313 hp, but with a range limited to 400 km.
Mid-2023, the Geely group will arrive
These are three different brands, but they all belong to the same Chinese automaker group, Geely. The most anticipated is the Polestar 3, flagship of the range before the upcoming “5” in 2025. But it’s also the most uncertain, as the company has not yet announced its arrival date in France. When will we enjoy the first Polestar SUV with a 610 km range per charge and 517 hp in the high-end version?

Patience, because its cousin Volvo EX90, built on the same SPA2 platform, arrives with lower power (still 408 hp). But it will have the same 111 kWh battery for a 600 km range. This large 7-seater also targets safety, with features like an integrated Lidar for semi-autonomous driving. But not below €107,900!
With the same technology and even more power (up to 900 hp !), the Lotus Eletre marks a break. The British brand transitions from lightweight sports gasoline cars to a large electric SUV… made in China. At least, luxury is present, with rich equipment and high-end performance. But the price tag is steep, starting at €97,890.

Other large electric SUVs possible by late 2023
The Kia EV9 should arrive at the very end of the year. Likely larger than the EV6, it will surpass the 4.80 meters of its thermal equivalent Sorento. Characteristics are still unknown, but its design will be very boxy, and it will use at least existing 77 kWh batteries to ensure more than 450 km of range.
More premium, the Audi Q6 e-tron will try to bridge the gap between the Q4 and Q8, with its new PPE platform which will also be used for the Porsche Macan Electric. About 600 km of range and 400 hp are expected for this SUV, which should start around €75,000.

After Asia, Europe, why not America? Rivian might finally arrive here with its R1S. More realistically, Ford does not have a large SUV in reserve, but an electric shuttle van that will appeal to large families. Far from focusing on technology, the Ford E-Tourneo Custom will aim to carry up to 8 people in its 5 meters, with a range of 370 km without recharging. All for under €60,000?
