Invisible revolution for the Volvo XC40 electric
This page is translated from the original post "Révolution invisible pour le Volvo XC40 électrique" in French.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge undergoes significant technical changes, transitioning to rear-wheel drive and improving its range. The C40 Recharge is also affected by these modifications.
Previously placed on the front axle, the electric motor of the XC40 and its coupe counterpart C40 Recharge Twin is now located at the rear. Consequently, the electric SUV shifts from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. A small revolution for Volvo, which had abandoned rear-wheel drive years ago.
This change is accompanied by an increase in power, from 231 to 238 hp. Achieved with a new permanent magnet motor that Volvo claims to have developed in-house. The battery capacity remains unchanged at 69 kWh compared to the previous model, but the range still increases thanks to improvements in the cooling system and other minor modifications (such as new wheels). In optimal configuration, the XC40 Recharge reaches 460 km, up from 425 km previously (WLTP mixed cycle). For the C40 Recharge, the range increases from 438 to 476 km, still according to WLTP mixed cycle.
Alongside the 69 kWh XC40 / C40, Volvo introduces a new high-range version, still rear-wheel drive. The battery capacity is increased to 82 kWh. Power is slightly increased to 252 hp. Regarding range, Volvo announces 514 km for the XC40, and 533 km for the C40. On these larger-battery versions, the maximum charging power reaches 200 kW, a 50 kW increase compared to the rest of the lineup.

A Volvo XC40 with all-wheel drive still available
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version remains in the lineup. It still delivers a combined power of 408 hp, with a modified front/rear distribution (183 kW for the rear motor, 117 kW for the front, compared to 150 kW / 150 kW previously). This version, called Recharge Twin, uses the 82 kWh battery from the high-range rear-wheel-drive model, allowing it to gain 4 kWh over previous models. The XC40 and C40 Recharge Twin now promise ranges of 500 km and 507 km respectively (vs 438 and 451 km before). Capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds, they are limited to 180 km/h, like other versions.
Pricing starts at a minimum of €48,950 for this new XC40 Recharge model. The C40 Recharge starts at €54,050.
