Hyundai Kona Hybride 2023

Besides the 100% electric version, the second-generation Hyundai Kona will still be available in hybrid, with significant inspiration from the Ioniq models.

After the launch of the second-generation Kia Niro electric, we knew that the Hyundai Kona cousin would follow. Based on the same platform, both brands belonging to Hyundai Motor Group, the two compact SUVs remain closely related technically in 2023.

More Modern and More Spacious

Last December, the Hyundai Kona II showcased its design, but with few details and a partial view of the interior. The Korean vehicle returns this week with more photos to illustrate its cabin. It confirms what we thought back then: it draws heavily from the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, Hyundai’s higher-end electric models.

However, the Asian manufacturer only shows us here the version common to both hybrid and combustion engine options. The dashboard echoes the Ioniq spirit with a gray/white ambiance and continuous dual screens. Nevertheless, note that the Hyundai Kona hybrid appears to target less tech-savvy users, with a prominent array of physical buttons, especially for the climate control.

The storage compartments seem plentiful, with a closed glove box topped with an illuminated open space, and the center console offering a storage bin along with cupholders and a closed compartment under the armrest. The interior space will be larger than the current Kona, with an increase of 14 cm in length, including 6 cm in the wheelbase. Hyundai promises “77 mm more legroom and 11 mm additional headroom” in the rear seats.

What Powertrain for the Hyundai Kona Hybrid?

Interesting from an aesthetic point of view, the Hyundai Kona Hybrid still does not reveal its characteristics. The new generation is expected to adopt, like its Niro cousin, the current duo of a 1.6-liter GDi petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing 141 horsepower. With this combination, the Korean compact SUV should have a fuel consumption of around 4.5 L/100 km. As for the price, we estimate it to be around €30,000 in the basic trim. More details should be available in March, along with the Hyundai Kona Electric.
