Unusual video: an 800-horsepower Honda CR-V Hybrid!

Recognized automaker Honda has maintained its expertise in motorsport, even when it comes to hybrid mechanics. The proof is this very aggressive CR-V Hybrid Racer.

Cars, motorcycles, boats… And even agricultural machinery. While Honda may not be the best-selling manufacturer, it is undoubtedly one of the most diverse in terms of powertrain options. Whether for production models or racing, the Tokyo-based company has little to prove anymore, except perhaps in the realm of 100% electric vehicles, where it still seems to be holding back. Aside from the adorable Honda-e, its current lineup lacks any other electric models until a new electric SUV is introduced.

The thing with Honda is more about “traditional” hybridization, a technology well mastered by the Japanese specialist, both in terms of fuel efficiency and reliability. To prove to skeptics, Honda now presents a rather special CR-V.

A Truly Very Aggressive Honda CR-V

This Hybrid Racer bears little resemblance to the production model, even if some body elements are preserved. It features suggestive fender extensions, a front spoiler, and a massive rear wing. Styled as a Pikes Peak racing car, it adopts a pure racing mechanics, namely an 800 hp hybrid turbo V6, similar to the engine that will power Honda’s Indycar racers in 2024.

Honda Performance Development developed this show car with a carbon shell, and this hybrid has the unique feature of not using a traditional battery but rather a Skeleton supercapacitor to provide the necessary electricity for the vehicle. Performance is expected to be impressive, with better-controlled fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

To transfer power to the ground (this CR-V is a true rear-wheel drive), Honda opted for a 6-speed sequential gearbox made by Xtrac.
