While mainstream brands offer electric utility vehicles based on traditional models, here is the British Watt EV introduces an entirely new model with a large battery.

Watt Electric Vehicle Company (WEV) describes itself as a “manufacturer of lightweight electric vehicles and a leader in technological development.” The British brand has developed a dedicated EV platform tailored specifically for “workhorse” vehicles. A promising sector, especially since companies investing in electric models benefit from tax advantages as well as quicker amortization over the medium term due to simplified maintenance. It also offers increased driver comfort compared to traditional diesel vehicles.

The new Watt EV ECV1 features a very modern look, notably distinguished by its enormous windshield, which offers clear visibility. Depending on the configuration, it can accommodate up to 3 passengers, with the driver positioned centrally in the cabin. Four “body styles” are planned: traditional van, high-cube van, flatbed with sides, and chassis cab. Like leading models in the category, it can be customized to meet each company’s specific needs.

A Good Range

The Watt EV ECV1 is built on a chassis called PACES (for Passenger And Commercial EV Skateboard) and favors aluminum to reduce overall weight. It weighs about 1,750 kg in its simplest configuration, roughly the same as a compact electric SUV. Performance-wise, the utility vehicle will be powered by a 110 kWh battery, which could allow it in the best case to reach a range of 460 km. Naturally, this range may vary depending on the versions (traction, rear-wheel drive, 4×4, etc.).

It still offers a comfortable operating radius for companies. No prototype has yet been seen on the road, but the manufacturer aims to unveil its electric utility vehicle in 2024, with hopes of producing 5,000 units in a full year. Stay tuned.
