Beta CX300: A Small but Tough Electric Aircraft

Its futuristic design conceals a piece of technology. This small electric airplane also offers a surprising range.

The rise of electric technology has led to the proliferation of startups, both in the automotive sector and in aviation. Still unknown to the general public, the American company Beta Technologies was founded in 2017. Established by an engineer and pilot named Kyle Clark, it quickly specialized in small electric aircraft with vertical takeoff and landing, called eVTOL. More than just passenger transport, these are primarily aimed at improving the efficiency of freight companies, providing them with effective tools for deliveries, while also being more environmentally friendly and eligible for government aid.

It was actually thanks to a contract signed with the U.S. military last year that Beta Technologies reached a new milestone. The startup will test its eVTOLs in military missions to quickly supply troops with necessary equipment on operational sites. After the famous Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter in Vietnam, it will now be possible to see a Beta-branded aircraft in other conflict zones.

Good Range

In its initial configuration, the Beta CX300 takes off in a conventional manner (eCTOL aircraft), and it has already completed 35,000 km of flight tests. Capable of carrying up to 5 people on board, it could travel more than 600 km with a single electric charge.

The manufacturer mentions that it would only cost around twenty euros to fully charge the CX300, compared to 500 euros for a conventional thermal aircraft!
