Renault Verkor Batteries - Couverture

Verkor and Renault Group announced today the signing of a battery supply agreement for electric vehicles.

The automotive battery company Verkor and Renault Group will now collaborate on the production of electric batteries. Verkor promises to deliver 12 GWh (12 million kWh) annually to the French brand, equivalent to 6 million batteries of the Renault Austral.

This partnership is part of the France 2030 investment project by the government, notably concerning the recycling of automotive batteries in France, with facilities to be established in Dieuze (Moselle) and Dunkirk (North).

The Verkor brand will use its lithium-ion batteries in vehicles of the “upper segments of Renault Group brands” as well as in the upcoming 100% electric C-Crossover GT from Alpine, which will be produced starting in 2025.

Furthermore, Alpine plans to develop a 100% electric range in addition to its current sporty A110. According to the latest information, it appears that three models are planned.

The first will probably be a sporty city car built on the group’s CMF-BEV platform. The second will be the C-Crossover GT, suitable for large families. The last is the A110 E-ternité, a 100% electric car developed in partnership with Lotus.

Starting in 2025, Verkor’s Gigafactory also plans to recycle automotive batteries through a partnership between Mecaware and Verkor. The recycling will focus on rare and precious metals used in batteries, especially lithium. Indeed, from 2025, European legislation will require the inclusion of recycled raw materials in the production of new batteries. As a result, the Verkor-Renault Group partnership offers multiple benefits for the two French companies.

Some components will thus be reused in future Renault Group vehicles. A percentage of recycled components will also be used in other electronic devices such as smartphones or laptops.
