Cupra Tavascan (2023): A Charismatic Electric Vehicle

Companion technique of the Volkswagen ID.5 and Skoda Enyaq Coupé, the Cupra Tavascan presents a very dynamic look, and a sturdy electric motor of the kind. 

Sports division of the Seat brand, Cupra knows how to make characterful cars. However, its current electric sedan Born was not distinguished by particularly energetic mechanics. With the arrival of the Cupra Tavascan, things will fortunately change. 

The latter can indeed rely on the latest APP550 electric unit with a very comfortable power of 286 hp, whereas the most powerful electric at Cupra previously only had 204 hp. This synchronous type mechanical system is located on the rear axle of the Tavascan, which will later be available in a 4×4 version equipped with an even more powerful electric motor, developing 340 hp! 

A standard capacity battery 

A slight disappointment, however, since the announced battery offers only a capacity of 77 kWh. Nevertheless, the expected fuel efficiency of the new motor should allow the Cupra to reach 550 km WLTP range in rear-wheel drive and still 520 km in 4×4. Values that we will be sure to verify during a future review. 

Made in China (yes), the Cupra Tavascan still displays quite reasonable dimensions, at 4.64 m long. Its rather masculine style will appeal to nostalgia for the good old days of Seat Leon Cupra, with exaggerated bumpers, 21-inch rims, and an aggressive lighting signature. 

A particularly modern interior 

The interior conforms to current aesthetic standards, with a large 15-inch multimedia screen that clashes with the rather tiny digital instrument cluster. The dashboard stands out from other models by its very minimalist design, especially in the center console, and the almost complete absence of traditional controls. 

Among interesting features, there is the augmented reality head-up display and a Sennheiser audio system with 12 speakers. The fast charging can reach up to 135 kW, but the heat pump remains an optional feature. 

Although its market launch is expected early in 2024 on the French market, prices remain unknown for now.
