Acura Unveils the Precision EV Concept

100% electric, the Acura Precision EV Concept is also equipped with an autonomous driving system.
With the help of General Motors, Acura is developing an electric SUV for 2024. But in the meantime, they need to fill the gap and draw attention around the project. This is perhaps why the Precision EV concept was developed.
The vehicle was unveiled during Monterey Car Week, a major event across the Atlantic. Quite traditional, it is supposed to evoke the nautical world and more specifically “luxury Italian powered boats.” Quite a program…
As is often the case, it’s not the overall design that captures attention, but small details. Acura, for example, has worked a lot on the vehicle’s lighting signature (notably seen on the grille). The premium Honda company has also eliminated door handles to give a smoother appearance to the bodywork. The floating roof highlighted with a chrome strip adds a touch of lightness to the overall look. The split spoiler, air intakes integrated into the bumpers, and even the 23-inch wheels housing yellow brake calipers all contribute to energizing the appearance of the Precision.
An autonomous driving mode
Continuing from the exterior, the interior features numerous lighting effects. The furnishings favor simple and clean shapes. The dashboard, which could fit into a more sporty vehicle, suggests that the Precision EV clearly leans into sportiness. Unfortunately, Acura has not released any technical specifications to confirm (or deny) this suspicion. The manufacturer only states that the concept has a fully dedicated driving pleasure mode. Another mode called “Spiritual Lounge” activates the autonomous driving system. With this, the steering wheel retracts, and interior lighting projects an animation on the floor mimicking water movements.

The production model will naturally be more subdued, both outside and inside. It will not be fully autonomous either. This model will be reserved for the U.S. market. In Europe, Honda already plans to launch a more compact electric SUV than Acura’s. It will be the e:Ny1, which will closely resemble the HR-V.
