Peugeot E-3008: 700 km Range, Provoking the Renault Scénic?
This page is translated from the original post "Peugeot E-3008 : 700 km d’autonomie, provocation au Renault Scénic ?" in French.

A few days after the presentation of the Renault Scenic electric with its 620 km range, Peugeot unleashes its E-3008. Intentional?
Welcome to the game of 7 errors as these two rivals, the new Peugeot E-3008 and Renault Scenic, display surprisingly similar appearances for those who are not automotive experts. No coincidence since the former star Peugeot designer, Gilles Vidal, has defected to the enemy.
In both cases, the acceleration of our two national manufacturers in the electric sector is quite pleasing to see. Their delay is not insurmountable, and they seem to be learning very quickly. The automotive industry is also such that under the bodywork, many technological solutions are the work of leading subcontractors on very specific topics. A car is thus becoming more and more like a giant mechanic with off-the-shelf components that need to be packaged. That’s the whole threat of Chinese manufacturers… who are the leading suppliers in electric technology.

Back to our main topic. Peugeot delivered a very strong message with its new electric SUV E-3008 featuring a battery capacity ranging from 73 to 98 kWh depending on the trim. And to send an even clearer message of modernity, Peugeot adopts Tesla-like naming conventions with Dual Motor (all-wheel drive) and Long Range.
It is the latter that piques our curiosity. Combining the very large 98 kWh battery with a single electric motor (thus two-wheel drive) of 170 kW (230 hp), the Long Range promises up to 700 km of range. As for charging, it can reach up to 160 kW, enabling a 10-80% fill in less than 30 minutes under optimal conditions.
Remaining to be seen is the price of such a configuration, but its eligibility for the eco-bonus seems uncertain…
RENAULT SCÉNIC

At Renault, no frills: the large battery claims 87 kWh and power of 160 kW (220 horsepower). A capacity difference that inevitably affects the announced range of 620 km. Remaining to be seen is whether this lighter version will be reflected in the final sale price.
In both cases, caution is advised to not be duped by the hook. These are WLTP homologated ranges, so not reflective of real-life conditions—driving style, number of passengers, luggage carried, weather, etc.
The standard is to subtract 20% from the stated range to get a realistic estimate. So, the Peugeot E-3008 Long Range could reliably ensure up to 560 km “without stress” and the Renault Scenic up to 495 km. Quite simply, the fear of running out of power diminishes with these two new players in the electric market. Tesla will have to react because its dominance is quickly fading.
