The E-Foil: This Summer’s Star Trend

The e-foil is intriguing. This surfboard, equipped with an electric motor and a wing, floats above the water and is becoming more popular.

The concept of the e-foil is actually quite simple. A thick board of fairly small size, a fin with a hidden electric propulsion motor underneath the board… and that’s it! To control the power and speed of the board, a waterproof Bluetooth remote control similar to those used for electric skateboards. A battery, typically around 35,000 mAh for most models, fits inside the board and provides about an hour and a half of autonomy. Plenty of time since the exercise remains physical! It recharges in three hours. The remote displays the battery level in real-time and allows you to select your cruising speed using a dial.

This summer, air surfer videos flying up to 1 meter high have flooded social media. A success that is no coincidence, since, in general opinion, taking the time to master the technique and the board makes progress very smoothly and quickly allows you to enjoy yourself and strive to go further with each outing. However, it is a dangerous sport due to the height and speeds that can reach 40 km/h, and it has also caused many emergency medical center visits during the summer.

The e-foil coexists with surfing

The e-foil is not intended to take over surfing spots, which are more dedicated to foil surfing, a non-motorized cousin of the e-foil. Whether in the sea, a lake, or a river, the electric foil can be used anywhere there are no waves, without any noise pollution or water pollution. In fact, the e-foil could replace noisy jet skis, which are a real nuisance on beaches. As models become lighter and more ergonomic, it could even become an individual means of transportation on waterways.

The average price of an e-foil can vary between €7,000 and €15,000 depending on the brand, features, and functionalities of the specific model. On average, expect around €12,000 for a proven and sturdy model.
