Renault Geely

Renault is giving itself every chance to achieve its goal of one in three vehicles being hybrid or electric outside Europe by 2027.

Behind a distinctly French facade, Renault is the best-selling French car brand worldwide, with 43% of its sales international, amounting to 634,124 units in 2022 (manufacturer data). That same year, half of the top 10 most important markets for Renault were outside Europe: Brazil (2nd), Turkey (4th), India (5th), South Korea (8th), and Colombia (9th).

The French manufacturer continues its Renaulution with the launch of eight new products by 2027. A significant investment of €3 billion! This offensive aims to boost the brand’s performance in these key and historic regions. Renault targets a unit turnover per vehicle sold outside Europe doubled compared to 2019 by 2027.

Renault will adapt its catalog thanks to a new modular platform from the Renault Group with a global focus. It will be assembled in four industrial regions: Latin America, Turkey, Morocco, and India. This platform, with an adjustable and flexible architecture, allows for diversity:

  • vehicle length, between 4 and 5 meters
  • wheelbase, with four possible measurements from 2.60 m to 3 m
  • three rear units, with three different lengths
  • energy types and new powertrain groups, for greater efficiency in consumption and CO emissions: thermal, flex-fuel (E100), LPG, mild hybrid advanced 48v, full hybrid, available in front-wheel drive or 4×4.

But the real challenge of tomorrow in emerging markets is, of course, electrification. The CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform comes from the partnership signed between Renault Group and Geely Holding Group in 2022. For those who don’t know Gelly yet, it’s among others Volvo, Lynk & Co, Smart, Lotus, Polestar, and Zeekr. Not a bad partner, right? It will serve as the foundation for premium vehicles targeting segments D and E, in 4×2 and 4×4 versions, notably with hybrid powertrains. These vehicles will be designed by the Seoul engineering center and manufactured at the Busan plant. The first Renault Korea Motors vehicle developed on this platform will be presented at the end of the first half of 2024.
